TISSUE CULTURE LABORATORY

Sawit Kinabalu Biotech Sdn Bhd is a biotechnology laboratory situated in Apas Balung, Tawau to produce clonal materials for commercial planting. The biotechnology laboratory was commissioned in March 2005 with a capacity of 30,000 ramets per annum. This was subsequently expanded to a capacity of 200,000 ramets per annum in year 2008. Criterion used in selecting ortet sources for cloning include a minimum oil to bunch of 30% and Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) of at least 250kg per palm per year. Field planting of clonal materials from the Group’s own plantations is ongoing. It is anticipated that some ramets will be for sale to outside plantations as from 2012.
